You reach into a living creature’s essence and violently tear away a fragment of its soul. The target must make a Fortitude defend roll contested by your Magic skill.
-
On a failure, the target takes Necrotic damage equal to the margin of failure plus 2d4.
-
For a number of turns equal to your Magic skill, the target’s maximum Physical Stress Pool is reduced by the stress points dealt. If this reduction would bring the maximum below the target’s current stress points, it must immediately take a Consequence.
-
A creature killed by Soul Rend cannot be resurrected by Resurrection or any spell of equal or lower level. Only divine intervention or equivalent power may restore such a creature.
Stunts
Soulsteal
When you deal stress points with Soul Rend, you immediately recover Mental stress points equal to the stress dealt, as the stolen soul fragment restores your own psyche.
Unraveling Touch
If the target is already suffering from any Consequence when Soul Rend is cast, treat the margin of failure as 2 higher solely for the purpose of stress points dealt.
Lingering Void
The reduction to the target’s maximum Physical Stress Pool persists for a number of days equal to your Magic skill rather than turns, as the torn soul is slow to mend.
Twin Rend
You may choose a second creature within 10 meters of the primary target. That creature takes Necrotic damage equal to half the margin of failure (rounded down). The secondary target does not suffer the Physical Stress Pool maximum reduction.
Soul Devour
If Soul Rend kills its target, you immediately regain Mana equal to your Magic skill.
