Choose a creature that you can see within 40 meters of you. The target must make a Reflex defend roll contested by your Magic skill.
-
On a failure, the target takes Lightning damage equal to the margin of failure + 2d4.
-
Three additional bolts then leap from the initial target to as many as three other targets, each of which must be within 10 meters of the first target.
-
Each secondary target must also make a Reflex defend roll contested by your Magic skill.
-
A creature or object may only be hit by one bolt.
Stunts
Conductive Storm
When you cast Chain Lightning, you may target up to five secondary targets instead of three, provided each is within 10 meters of the initial target.
Overload
If a creature fails its defend check by 3 or more, you may cause it to become Stunned until the end of its next turn in addition to taking damage. This is a physical effect of the electrical shock and does not require a Mental Consequence.
Forking Current
You may choose to have the lightning bolts bounce off metal surfaces or water, allowing you to bend the arcs around corners or cover. You must still have a line of sight to the initial target.
Arc Surge
You may reroll the 1d12 damage of the primary bolt and take the better result. This stunt may only be used once per casting.
Grounding Field
When casting Chain Lightning, all creatures within 4 meters of any affected target (primary or secondary) must make an Reflex vs Magic check or take 1d12 Lightning damage from static discharge.
